WilsonProfessor; Head of DepartmentEducation: Ph.D., University of Wisconsin - Madison Research Interests: Social and psychological effects of mass media; developmental differences in children’s responses to mass media; children’s emotional and cognitive processing of mass media; impact of media violence; media policy implications of social science research. Current Research: Professor Wilson’s research focuses on children’s responses to mass media, particularly fear responses and responses to televised violence. For example, her work has examined how children’s emotional responses to media are related to cognitive and emotional development. Recent projects have focused on children’s reactions to television news and children’s attraction to different types of media characters. She was a co-investigator in the National Television Violence study, in which she examined different types of violence and different contexts in which violent acts are presented.
