The Department of Speech Communication staff is ready to assist you.
Mailboxes for Faculty and Teaching Assistants are in this office. Information
about the undergraduate program, as well as the MA and Ph.D. programs
in Speech Communication are also available 8-12, 1-5 each day the university
is open. Mary Strum can assist with graduate application packets.
Susana Wiegel is responsible for the Woolbert Video Lab, 240 Lincoln
if you need to view a speech tape or other taped research material.
Susana can assist with the teaching internship (Spcom 204) applications.
The department receptionist, Amy, is whom you are likely to see first as you
enter the department office. The receptionist will most likely take
phone messages for faculty and TAs.
Other 244 Lincoln Hall personnel who are ready to assist you are Margie
Salmon, Administrative Aide and Rhonda Baumgart. Both have other responsibilities
which assist faculty and teaching assistants, but whom you might encounter
when you are seeking an instructor’s mailbox.

The Undergraduate Adviser is available to assist students with problems
as they arise. Bring any questions or concerns that develop at any time
during the semester. If questions cannot be answered we will find someone
who can. Appointments can be arranged by phone or e-mail and are preferable
to just walking-in. Don’t wait until registration to think about
academic concerns.
The departmental Undergraduate Adviser is Dr. Barbara I. Hall. Appointments
can be made directly by calling 333-1647 or sending an e-mail note to
b-hall@uiuc.edu. If something
arises that needs immediate attention please do not hesitate to call
or stop by. Students can usually be seen as the need exists. Information

The Department of Speech Communication is a unit within the College
of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). There you will find the Deans, the

Juniors and seniors are encouraged to establish a Placement File with
Career Services. Either a career placement file or a graduate or professional
school file can be opened. Placement files should include a personal
data form, letters of recommendation, and a transcript. The staff at
Career Services will assist with resume preparation, as well as interviews.
Various workshops are conducted throughout each semester to assist you
in your career search. Remember: Resume building and career planning
begin the day you enter college.
