  • Travis Dixon - Travis Dixon has been awarded $24,600 from the Campus Research Board for his project
            entitled, "Understanding News Coverage of Hurricane Katrina: The Impact of News Frames and
            Stereotypical News Coverage on Viewers' Conception of Race and Victimization."

           2006 Outstanding Journal Article Award from the African American Communication and Culture Division
           of NCA. The award recognizes Professor Dixon's article, "Psychological Reactions to Crime News
           Portrayals of Black Criminals: Understanding the Moderating Roles of Prior Viewing and
           Stereotype Endorsement," which was published in 2006 in Communication Monographs.

  • Cara Finnegan - Cara Finnegan has won NCA's Golden Anniversary Monograph Award. She received
            this award for her article, "Recognizing Lincoln: Image Vernaculars in Nineteenth-Century
            Visual Culture," in Rhetoric & Public Affairs , 2005, 8, 31-58.

  • Scott Poole - The inaugural Career Achievement Award from NCA's Group Communication Division.
            In recognizing Scott for this award, the Division praised him for the tremendous impact and heuristic
            value of several lines of research he has initiated and also mentioned his important work in starting the
            Group Communication Division.

            He is also the recipient of the 2006 Ernest Bormann Research Award from the Group Communication
            Division of NCA. This award recognizes Scott's co-authored book (with Andrea Hollingshead),
            Theories of Small Groups: interdisciplinary Perspectives.

  • Ned O'Gorman - Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities Faculty Fellowship 2006-2007
  • Tracy Sulkin -Tracy Sulkin's book, Issue Politics in Congress (Cambridge, 2005) will receive
                 two awards at the upcoming American Political Science Association convention, the Fenno Prize for
                 the best book in legislative studies and the Alan Rosenthal Prize for the best work of interest to
                 practitioners of legislative politics.
